Located in Baie-d’Urfé, SCP SCIENCE is a successful, privately-owned company that manufactures and distributes certified analytical equipment, supplies, reagents and certified reference materials for the inorganic analysis laboratory market. The company has grown substantially in recent years, thanks to in-house and contract manufacturing, acquisitions and the expansion of its worldwide distribution network.

Job Description:

SCP SCIENCE is currently looking for a Controller to join our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the preparation of internal monthly financial statements and information files
  • Supervise the preparation of year-end files and corporate tax returns
  • Manage relations with external accountants
  • Develop, implement and monitor financial policies and procedures
  • Provide expertise in business analysis and financial modeling
  • Evaluate and streamline all financial information systems and accounting processes
  • Check the accuracy and timeliness of accounting documents
  • Supervise the preparation of the annual audit file
  • Managing the U.S. sales tax reporting process
  • Oversee the preparation of revenue and expenditure budgets for departments
  • Monitor monthly results and compare with budgets
  • Highlight and analyze significant discrepancies
  • Update budgets as necessary
  • Submit progress reports and discuss with management
  • Make recommendations to reduce overheads and operating costs
  • Participate in the budgeting process in a group environment
  • Train accounting staff if necessary
  • Monitor the company’s spending process
  • A/R – A/P process monitoring
  • Overview of the monthly accounting cycle
  • Coordinate any changes to system automation
  • Play an active role in the integration of newly acquired companies
  • Managing cash requirements
  • Control/maintain inter-company transactions
  • Contribute to the implementation of processes for daily activities
  • Liaise with provincial and federal authorities in the event of an audit
  • Participate in the negotiation and review of contractual obligations

Requirements:

  • Accounting degree and relevant experience
  • Fluent in English and French
  • 5 years’ experience in a similar commercial environment
  • Experience with IFRS would be an asset
  • Experience in consolidating financial statements and foreign currency transactions
  • Knowledge of industrial accounting with cost allocation
  • Strong computer skills (advanced Excel)
  • Superior analytical skills, attention to detail, excellent time management.
