Refuge pour les femmes de l’Ouest de l’Ile (RFOI) is a non-profit organization that helps women victims of domestic violence and their children. We offer specialized support through a variety of services such as first-stage housing, second-stage apartments, socio-legal support from a lawyer and external follow-up services (without housing). Description of duties and responsibilities:
Intervention:
- Working one-on-one with mothers and children
- Conduct mother-child and family meetings as needed;
- Intervene in disputes between young people;
- Support women in their role as mothers, while fostering a positive, healthy relationship between them and their children. All while offering support, information and referrals;
- Establish, for each family, in collaboration with the Alternat’Elle women’s counsellor, intervention objectives that take into account their reality;
- Plan, organize and offer services that promote the physical, social, emotional and educational development of young people;
- Plan and lead activities that correspond to the developmental stage and needs of young people exposed to domestic violence;
- Promoting healthy relationships and empowerment;
- Support the mother and children in their efforts by promoting an egalitarian relationship;
- Intervene on a daily basis, by telephone, e-mail or in person with the mothers and children being monitored;
- Write and update progress reports on mothers and children, statistical sheets and communication tools.
Group follow-up :
- Present schedules of group activities (planned workshops, recreational outings, etc.), taking into account different age groups;
- Facilitate group workshops on de-victimization for mothers whose children have been exposed to domestic violence;
- Co-lead summer day camps;
- Carry out group intervention, as needed: Field intervention – Thematic intervention – Community life intervention.
Responsibilities:
- Participate in the development of the resource and its influence in the community;
- Participate in working committees within the team;
- Participate in the development of intervention tools;
- Occasionally lead prevention and awareness activities in the community.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in social work, psycho-education, special education, criminology, psychology, sexology or other related field;
- Good command of French and English, other languages an asset;
- Experience in intervention and domestic violence is an asset.
- Desire to evolve within a feminist organization promoting the values of respect, equality, transparency and non-violence;
- Be able to organize your work and prioritize tasks;
- Be able to adapt to women’s realities (cancellations/changes/postponements of appointments, reduced availability, etc.);
- Demonstrate autonomy, resourcefulness and initiative;
- Show respect, compassion, empathy and discretion.
Conditions:
- Salary starting at $26.70 / hour (at step 0) ;
- 35-hour day week, Monday to Friday ;
