Job Description:

The aim of Grass Valley’s test engineering department is to support the introduction of new products (IMPs) by developing and implementing production test solutions, and to provide ongoing support for existing products in the plant. The team’s standard deliverables focus on test strategy and test development, tool design and validation, the creation of integrated test firmware and diagnostic software, the development of test software and utility tools, the development of test sequences for automated test systems, support for the transition of new products from engineering to their final manufacturing facility, and the long-term maintenance of global test solutions.

The Test Engineer will collaborate with Test Engineer peers and cross-functional team members to develop the overall manufacturing test plan and associated technical documentation for the project. The test engineer will perform development tasks associated with the creation, validation and deployment of manufacturing test solutions defined by the manufacturing test plan. The test engineer will perform tasks to launch new products into production, validate process performance levels, train production staff, provide technical support on production issues and support test process maintenance activities throughout the product lifecycle. The test engineer will be supervised and offered training opportunities to refine existing skills and/or develop additional ones.

Responsibilities:

  • Interact with these colleagues, members of the manufacturing engineering teams and R&D departments to develop an understanding of the product and test objectives;
  • Contribute to the development of the manufacturing plan and the creation of the test plan;
  • Contribute to the development, validation and deployment of automated production test solutions for PCBA, product and system level validation;
  • Develop technical work procedures and support or reference documents for production test solutions;
  • Improve the quality, reliability and cost of our production test solutions, processes and products through continuous analysis of SPC test data and overall quality data;
  • Provide technical support to resolve production test issues throughout the product lifecycle;
  • Support continuous improvement, exception and change management activities;
  • Develop, document and manage a test engineering project task list and schedule;
  • Maintain and execute assigned tasks in accordance with the overall project schedule and milestones;
  • Occasional travel to internal and external manufacturing facilities is required, for up to two weeks. Usual travel time is one week or less.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical or computer engineering, or equivalent;
  • Minimum of three (3) years experience in a similar role;
  • Excellent time management skills and the ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
  • Interpersonal and communication skills to support working with a wide variety of personalities in a geographically dispersed team ;
  • Fluency in French and English is required;
  • Excellent technical documentation skills ;
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Experience in troubleshooting and debugging complex electronic circuits preferred;
  • Previous experience in a manufacturing engineering or test engineering position highly desirable;
  • Experience in working with third-party subcontractors preferred;
  • Experience with Microsoft Word, Excel, Visio and Outlook ;
  • SharePoint, Atlassian Confluence and Jira experience a plus ;
  • Installation/configuration of operating systems: Windows, Windows Server, Linux.
  • Hardware drivers, custom SW settings and low-level OS.
  • Experience with HW/SW disk cloning and mass duplication tools; HW cloners, Acronis or Ghost SW tools preferred.
  • Experience with basic use and configuration of required network interfaces; TCP/IP, Telnet, FTP, SNMP;
  • Basic network debugging skills desirable.
  • Experience and understanding of common instrument communication interfaces and associated software tools desirable (RS232 and RS422 serial).
  • Ability to read electrical diagrams ;
  • Mechanical skills to support assembly/disassembly of prototype units and test systems;
  • Experience in Windows and Linux software programming desirable.
  • Experience in real-time embedded software development is a plus;
  • Experience with SW revision control and bug tracking systems required; GIT, Stash, SVN or Rational ClearCase experience a plus;
  • Proficiency in one or more of the following programming languages required: c, c++, c#, Python, TCL, Perl and VBScript. Experience with QT and Visual Studio desirable.
  • Experience with National Instruments LabVIEW preferred;
  • The NI test bench is a plus;
  • Experience and understanding of different broadcast audio and video interface formats and associated standards is desirable.
